… this is Chico  ♥️

(May 2024)

The beautiful male border collie has been with us for some time now – time enough to get to know him a little bit better 🙂. We can still say that Chico, who has just turned two, is a really great dog. He is very friendly, very people-oriented and well orientated towards his owner. At first he needs a while with strangers, but if you let him come by himself, he builds up trust really quickly.

However, we have noticed that he has a problem with small children in some situations. Of course, we don’t know what might have happened beforehand. But he reacts quite irritably to small, wild or active children and is very wary of them – although these situations were behind the fence of his enclosure. Nevertheless, for us this means that there should be no small children in his new family for the time being, as we simply can’t judge that enough. Larger children or teenagers who understand dogs don’t seem to be a problem at all. Chico reacts well towards most dogs – he tends to avoid rowdy dogs or can be guided through such situations by his carer. He is very clever and teachable and definitely needs appropriate encouragement. He thinks cats are “okay” – in our opinion, there is definitely a chance to train him.

Chico needs people who like to be active themselves, who really have enough time for him – people who challenge him both physically and mentally. Then Chico will be a really great companion – and definitely a dog to fall in love with. Chico is not a downtown dog. A garden would of course be an advantage, but a flat on the outskirts of the city with suitable exercise opportunities (a fenced dog run nearby is definitely not enough) in the countryside would also be possible. Chico is now more than ready for his new family – he has been neutered, vaccinated and tested negative for leishmaniasis. And of course we at the shelter can’t offer him what he really needs and deserves.

Love at first sight?
