Jacky … ♥️😔

(August  2024)
He came to us in April 2022. Jacky – a beautiful Pastor Mallorquin mixed-breed dog who had really given up after about 8 months in the Perrera Natura Park. That’s how we met him – already extremely emaciated. He could no longer cope with the stress and simply stopped eating. So we took him in at an age of about 8 years. We would never have thought it possible that he would still be with us at the animal shelter in Calvià today.
Jacky is now 10 years old and has been with us for almost 2 1/2 years. All in all, that’s over three years in the perrera and the animal shelter 😔. At first he really thawed out with us in Calvià – because of course he is much better with us than in the perrera. But recently he’s been looking at us more and more like the photo above. And the idea that we won’t be able to find a home for him – that he will have to spend the rest of his life with us and then die there at some point – really breaks your heart. Because NO dog really deserves that.
Yes, our senior dog is a bit special – but he was also made that way – he didn’t choose his way of life himself. Jackie loves people and contact with them more than anything – and he is actually friendly and approachable to everyone straight away. Once he has known people for a while and has built up a relationship of trust, he is just great and you simply have to love him. And that’s exactly what he misses so much and also what he is so sick of – the bond and belonging to (his) human. We simply can’t do that here at the shelter – to give him (and everyone else too, of course) what he really needs and deserves.
Jacky doesn’t really need or want to be around with other dogs. He has never really been able to learn how to handle and socialise and so he naturally finds it difficult – and perhaps no longer wants to learn. Cats are definitely not his thing.
Jackie’s dream …? A quiet home in a quiet location – perhaps on a finca or in a house, but definitely with a garden – a permanent carer who spends a lot of time with him – not too much restlessness – lots of closeness and cuddles – he would love to have his own little dog pool in the garden and to be kept busy together.
What would Jacky offer …? Love, loyalty, trust, affection, gratitude and certainly good “guarding” of his humans and his home. Giving up has never been an option for us – we will try again and again. But we need your help and support – so please share our search again as often as you can and increase Jackie’s chances of being seen 🙏

Love at first sight??
