The little, enchanting, just one and a half year old Ratera lady has recently arrived at our animal shelter in Calvià. Minnie is a really wonderful dog – incredibly sweet, incredibly friendly and incredibly affectionate. Children, other dogs and even cats (well, they don’t necessarily have to be there 😉) – Minnie gets on really well with everyone.

However, the most important thing for this pretty female are people – and they should and must ALWAYS be near her at the moment. Because Minnie has developed a massive fear of loss due to her history (she has unfortunately already been passed on several times). If “her” human is near her, Minnie is happy and relaxed – but if you move away from her, she gets into real distress – i.e. she then has really massive fears of loss. And then Minnie “screams” first and quite loudly – and that’s something you really need to take seriously.

Minnie needs people who can fully engage with her, especially at the beginning, and who can really help her regain her trust with a lot of time and patience. She first has to learn that her people will really come back and not “dispose” of her straight away. Of course she will manage this – but it will take patience and time.

As Minnie probably used to live on a finca (i.e. mainly outside), she still finds some things a little difficult. For example, noises in a flat, such as a lift or noises from the neighbouring flat (Spanish flats are often very bright hearing ), probably unsettled her at first. According to the previous owners, she also barked at times. In this respect, a house with a garden would probably be the better solution for Minnie at the moment.

Because we really want and have to do everything we can to avoid Minnie being returned – that simply must never happen again. By the way, she is already house-trained – and she has also been fully vaccinated and tested negative for leishmaniasis. She just needs to be neutered now. Driving in a car – she really likes that too, because then she is with her human.

If you really get involved with sweet little Minnie and give her the time she needs, you will definitely have a little dream dog and a great companion for life at your side.
