This is Thor…
(September 2024)
This little male Ratero is seven years old and was recently handed in to us at the shelter by his family. Apparently there was trouble with the neighbors because Thor barked since he had to stay alone a lot. Thor suffered during the first few days at the shelter and didn’t really want anyone to get close to him. In the meantime, however, he has come to terms with the situation to some extent. At the moment, he still likes women a little better than men. And with strangers he needs a bit of time to open up. Thor is cautious initially, but then very affectionate and friendly. Once he trusts people, he can’t stop “giving kisses” and looking for closeness 😊.
But the little man also has character – or so we’ve been told. He sometimes shows quite clearly when he doesn’t like something. Thor has probably lived with (older) children. He gets on well with some other dogs and less well with others – as is usual with life. He doesn’t seem to have had many boundaries set for him so far and he probably hasn’t had to stick to many rules. We would have to work with him a bit more. What is certain, however, is that he is very much looking for attention and wants to belong – and that “being alone” in his current enclosure with us is quite hard on him. Incidentally, the little guy loves going for walks and doing things together.
Of course, we hope that we will find the right people for him very soon. People who are already experienced with dogs, really have a lot of time for him and don’t expect too much of him initially, but give him the time he needs to gain confidence. Small children should probably not be around at the moment. We can’t really judge his behavior towards cats yet. He immediately wants to chase after running cats; he doesn’t show much interest in sitting and rather cool cats. Thor is already neutered and fully vaccinated
