This is Poldi …
😢
(July 2025)
We have been asked to urgently help this 13-year-old Podenco/Breton mix male dog. Poldi has been living in completely inappropriate conditions for a long time and has probably not been taken for a walk in about three years. His brother (whom we will meet later) also lives there.
Apparently, the two dogs no longer get along at all, and there have already been incidents. As a result, the dogs now live in separate rooms. However, in my opinion, the incidents can be attributed entirely to the difficult living conditions of the two dogs, as Poldi did not seem to be incompatible with us. We met Poldi the day before yesterday.
He is a very lovable senior dog who could hardly believe that he was allowed to move around so freely in our exercise area. He didn’t know where to run and sniff first and immediately discovered our dog pool. At that moment, Poldi was just happy and simply “just a dog” 🙏. And that’s exactly the kind of life he needs.
Poldi likes people and reacts openly, approachably, and friendly toward them. Small children should not be around for the time being, as we simply cannot assess this well enough. However, he passed the cat test here with flying colors.
Since we couldn’t test his interaction with other dogs reliably and meaningfully at such short notice, we would probably prefer a single home for him at first—and then gradually see how everything develops once he is allowed to live under normal circumstances again. But there is certainly a lot of potential. We want to try everything we can to find a home for Poldi – otherwise he will be coming to our shelter or the Perrera Calvià in the next few days.
We have already had Poldi fully vaccinated and done a blood test (he is negative for leishmaniasis and completely fine for his age 🙏). He is neutered.
People, preferably older, with plenty of time, peace and quiet, and definitely with a fenced-in garden would be just right for Poldi.
At 13 years old, his remaining time is clearly limited – and it would be so wonderful if we could help him enjoy a beautiful twilight years.
Poldi really deserves it more than anything 🙏.
